What does it mean to ‘live creatively’?

I was trying to describe my blog to someone the other day and said, “It’s about living creatively – you know. I’m a glass-is-half-full kind of person.” That didn’t really suffice but I couldn’t come up with anything more definitive at that moment. Several days later I was telling my writing group how, after a difficult meeting, I’d given myself the treat of eating lunch under the autumnal trees in a local park. My thoughts wandered and meandered as I enjoyed the changing leaves of the oak, maple, birch and elm trees, from the first bite to the last of my Reuben (with mustard instead of Russian dressing) and a diet Root Beer (sinful indulgence for the Eating Clean lady).

And then I read the latest blog post from Pomegranates and Paper. She’s writing about living an artful life and says to “Demand more from your destiny.” I felt like we were enjoying a moment on the same inspirational page. Thinking about taking my lunch under the trees on an ordinary Wednesday afternoon, I realized that living creatively to me means recognizing the opportunity to jettison everyday life into something beautiful or meaningful or revealing.

The tagline on the blog of my friend over at Among the Hedgerows is “creating a life.” From the looks of her blog, it appears she’s accomplishing just that, and beautifully, too.

Sandwiches and fall foliage aside, to live creatively also includes photographing the people, places and things around me. I was very excited when this photo that I took while walking the beach with my son, his girlfriend and their new puppy, made it to #29 on flickr.com’s Explore (top 500 photos of the day). I hope you enjoy it, too.

So here’s to living creatively – Care to share what it means to you? I’d love to hear all about it!

Wow, it’s funny, but this was really on my mind this morning. I spend so much of my time preparing my “creative business”, that I’ve neglected my own creative time. So this morning, while at the antique markets (buying kimonos), I took some time for myself to enjoy all the other little things to look at and touch. It was so refreshing and reminded me that I need to do that a lot more.

What a great topic! To me, I believe living creatively means living fully in each moment and letting life touch me. I love it when I can be out in the midst of daily life just open up all my senses to really experience this amazing world we live in (well sometimes also a screwed up world, but pretty amazing too!).
