Today is the next-to-the-last Saturday before Christmas and my friend Tracy has invited a group of us to her house for a day of crafting – the opportunity to sit around her dining room table putting the final stitches on homemade holiday gifts. Or, if you’re ahead of the game, to get a head start on ’07 projects. She’s done this before and has a system in place so that everyone has enough work space, an electrical outlet, and table surface for their sewing machine. An ironing board and iron are set up for all to use. Sometimes there’s a dip and weave, when someone drops what they’re doing to step in and help another with piecing, fabric selection, binding or basting. We laugh. We sew. We tell stories. And we eat.
So I’m taking diet-friendly (I refuse to gain the traditional ‘Holiday 10’, seeing as I’m still struggling to get rid of the 37 I gained since ’04) and very clean —as in ‘eating clean’— veggies, hummus and hi-fiber whole-grain pita. Here’s my recipe:
-
Hummus – Chick Pea Dip
2 cups chick peas
2-4 cloves garlic
1/4-cup fresh lemon juice
1/2-cup sesami tahini
1/4-cup parsley, finely minced
1 Tbs. extra virgin olive oil
1/4 sweet red pepper, minced (optional garnish)
Using a food processor or blender, combine chick peas, garlic, lemon juice, tahini, oil and parsley. Blend thoroughly so that you have a thick, paste-like consistency. Transfer to a lidded container and chill before serving. Garnish with red peppers and serve with sticks of celery and carrots, slices of green and sweet red pepper, or peeled and sliced jacama.
You might be wondering how and/or why this is tagged as an Artist’s Way post. For me, anything involving beauty is open to Artist’s Way interpretation and application. Spending concentrated time sewing can be an Artist Date. Creating food with eye-appeal is an Artist Date, too. I try to fit way more than the prescribed 1 Artist Date per week into my life. So today is a double-header!

Lisa, You inspire me! Since my birthday is Feb 6 , every year I faithfully…almost in a driven way, take an indepth inventory much longer than the usual New Years Resolution making.
I check my progress. I seek God about reminding me once again what His purpose is for me, ( exactly…..Are you sure of that GOD?0 type of inventory.
A few years ago , I began writing my “ACCOMPLISHED list” for the year and my new goals. To my surprise , I have consistently completed most. It occurs to me this year that
it is time to set higher goals.
I do not believe in accidents. I believe in my steps being directed and God grace connecting me. I am so blessed that He has connected us, Lisa.
We’ll talk soon. Watching you be all that you are and the impact it is having on others really touches me. keep it up! You are a shining light.
Love ya, Cynthia

Lisa Lisa Lisa! I will enjoy reading this, it’ll ALMOST feel like we’re visiting. I already know it will make me want to come up for one of the craft sessions . . a friend & I did that all year quite regularly but we have been a little too social this season! I like that you will have clean & healthy recipes too. As always, you are creatively brilliant (or is that brilliantly creative?) Happy Holidays and Love from Susan
