Saturday sound check

Posted on February 23, 2013 by Lisa

It seems there’s been a glitch in my blog post delivery system. With a bit of luck, I have now checked the correct setting options to remedy the problem. (Any self-hosted WordPress gurus out there?!) If you have a minute, would you leave a comment to let me know you’ve received this? Thanks so much….

DIY Thank You Cards

Posted on March 13, 2012 by Lisa

See that book title, “WordPress 3”? Now that I’ve invested in some new real estate — virtual, that is — I’m putting my DIY inclinations to work. Learning how to maneuver in the backend of a privately hosted WordPress site is a little trickier than expected, but I’m making progress. As soon as the floors…

Knitting as Meditation and a Vision Board Surprise

Posted on January 10, 2011 by Lisa

I can’t believe it’s close to a month since I last wrote to you. What negligence and with each day that has passed since the end of December, my embarrassment has grown, throwing me into communication-paralysis. After meeting all of the new end-of-semester obligations as a first-time adjunct, there was Christmas to make happen at…

A huge thank you if you joined my blogaversary (it’s my third) giveaway. I never tire of hearing from you. So it was easy to decide that everyone should be a winner – I can’t bear to think of anyone being left out.  I’ll be in touch over the weekend for snail mail details. Hope…

Thank You for 2009

Posted on January 1, 2010 by Lisa

I used to think I could manufacture time out of thin air. Why shouldn’t I be able to indulge every single one of my creative interests and curiosities — all at the same time? If the Memoir Project has taught me one thing, it’s that when bringing a new endeavor on board, it is best…

The house by the river

Posted on August 6, 2009 by Lisa

These images are from the amazing, jaw-dropping location of our class picnic last week. I’m trying to learn the special features of my Corel Paint Shop Pro and thought I’d take a stab at assembling a collage. It’s not as easy as the mosaic maker on Big Huge Labs, but I like the option of rectangular rather…

Thanks to @jonehallmark and @twohandspaperie I’ve Thanks to @jonehallmark and @twohandspaperie I’ve been introduced to paper cutting. Sunday painting session with @innerpeaceartstudio Sunday painting session with @innerpeaceartstudio . The prompt was painted blobs. Despite cat #1 looking like a jazzed up potato, I could not stop! At some point in the flow I got the idea to paint some of the cats of my childhood. In the winter we burned paper trash in the fireplace to supplement what served as central heat in our very old house on Nantucket. Our (many!) cats and kittens would join us, huddled on the bricks to warm themselves, too. This funny little painting feels like the beginning of that writing project a couple of friends have been nudging me to start. Here’s looking at you @dianelesbecquets and @bettinacaserta ! What a fun — and surprising — day of painting. #artforwellness #watercolor #cats_of_instagram #memoir

“A Mother’s Story” told in four walls with needle, “A Mother’s Story” told in four walls with needle, thread and memory bits and found objects. These four walls are an interpretation of my mother’s life experience. The cloth houses were a craft workshop project, intended as decorative objects. Hand stitching is like a silent moving meditation for me. The motion of the hand stitching was the spark that launched this piece. So caught up was I with the storytelling bug that I stayed up stitching until I had completed two of these ‘memoir houses’.

Drawing and visiting, visiting and drawing, celebrating her new book, “Nearly Native A Nantucket Story of Adoption, Love and Luck.” Not to mention our friendship that dates back to 4th grade, when my family made the island our home. We made stamps with pliable erasers and found impressionable surfaces on her patio to ink. The green ‘dots’ in first pic were made by pressing the putty eraser onto a decorative metal shelf.
