Host it and they will come

Posted on December 4, 2007 by Lisa

I’m hosting a Crafting Bee this Saturday! Inspired by all of the DIY (do-it-yourself) crafting events I read about in this blog, and after spending hours admiring the Wardrobe Remix creativity of GrayGoosie, Lorimarsha and other California gals over on flickr, I decided that if I couldn’t be a part of the West Coast crafting happenings,…

My Dream Cottage

Posted on November 5, 2007 by Lisa

Welcome to my dream cottage. It’s near the water and even has a bit of a waterview. It is a traditional Victorian seaside summer cottage. I love how it looks much as it probably did when it was first built in 1876. I found it online after returning home from the Writing Retreat. And in the…

Artist Date – Portsmouth NH

Posted on September 30, 2007 by Lisa

It was accidental, really. We drove to Portsmouth to have lunch with my son. But the day was so perfect for walking and window-shopping that we stayed longer than we had intended. And so it was that I found the Enormous Tiny Art Show ii at Nahcotta in Portsmouth. The word ‘tiny’ was what first…

Full Moon Influence

Posted on September 29, 2007 by Lisa

This morning I woke up reluctantly. It was another vivid dream, the third this week. Could it be the full moon? But that’s now gone by. Or maybe it was watching The Secret for the third time and spending time writing my revised affirmations. Or perhaps it’s simply a confluence of all of the past…

Happy Convergence on Sunday

Posted on September 24, 2007 by Lisa

This is where I spent my Sunday: digging in the dirt, expanding on that idea for a Secret Garden right here in the middle of the city. The weather was perfect – warm but not too warm. Sunny. And in the company of … … this friend, who arrived with her own shovel, pick-ax (!),…

It’s a Party!

Posted on September 3, 2007 by Lisa

I like to think that I follow through on my word, so it’s been eating at me – in the back of my mind – that I committed to hosting four parties in 2007 and I haven’t really had one yet. Until this past Sunday, that is. My sister’s brother-in-law just moved to the area…

My Current Ice Cream Flavors

Posted on August 14, 2007 by Lisa

There are always too many projects and new interests jockeying for front row status so it’s taken me a while to sort things out and recognize the current “must-haves”: These are over and above any work-for-pay that is a necessary and regular part of the day. Once I’d achieved clarity about these three areas of…

Productivity Tip

Posted on July 20, 2007 by Lisa

The question was, how to take my writing productivity to the next level? I know how to velcro my tail to the sofa and disallow myself from getting up until I’ve written the self-assigned number of words or spent the pre-allotted amount of time at the keyboard. But I was looking around for something new….

A Perfect Morning

Posted on July 19, 2007 by Lisa

Today is Writing Group day! Our regular gathering of four writers only rolls around once a month and I love it and look forward to it. Excitement for the get-together spurs on more creativity. So, while the coffee (fresh-ground, water-decaffeinated shade-grown beans, in case you’re wondering) is dripping, I pull out my camera. It’s only…

Ebb and Flow

“One of the secrets of success is to refuse to let temporary setbacks defeat us.“ Mary Kay, 1915-2001, Founder of Mary Kay Cosmetics Today was Writing Group day and, guess what … I went empty handed. First time in almost two years this has happened. It’s that proverbial ice cream dish. I added a…

Sunday painting session with @innerpeaceartstudio Sunday painting session with @innerpeaceartstudio . The prompt was painted blobs. Despite cat #1 looking like a jazzed up potato, I could not stop! At some point in the flow I got the idea to paint some of the cats of my childhood. In the winter we burned paper trash in the fireplace to supplement what served as central heat in our very old house on Nantucket. Our (many!) cats and kittens would join us, huddled on the bricks to warm themselves, too. This funny little painting feels like the beginning of that writing project a couple of friends have been nudging me to start. Here’s looking at you @dianelesbecquets and @bettinacaserta ! What a fun — and surprising — day of painting. #artforwellness #watercolor #cats_of_instagram #memoir

“A Mother’s Story” told in four walls with needle, “A Mother’s Story” told in four walls with needle, thread and memory bits and found objects. These four walls are an interpretation of my mother’s life experience. The cloth houses were a craft workshop project, intended as decorative objects. Hand stitching is like a silent moving meditation for me. The motion of the hand stitching was the spark that launched this piece. So caught up was I with the storytelling bug that I stayed up stitching until I had completed two of these ‘memoir houses’.
